A White House statement pointed out that US President Trump had previously announced the tariff policy in early February, giving the governments of Canada and Mexico 30 days to strengthen border security and prevent so-called "dangerous activities." However, since both countries failed to meet the US demands, the US decided to proceed with the tariff measures as planned.
