Steel Dynamics, Inc. (SDI), a US steel producer, expected strong growth in its first-quarter 2025 profits, forecasting diluted earnings per share (EPS) between US$1.36 and US$1.40. In comparison, the company reported an EPS of US$1.36 in the fourth quarter of 2024, and US$3.67 in the first quarter of 2024.

SDI anticipated improved steel operations in the first quarter of 2025, driven by higher shipments that would offset some metal margin compression. The impact of recent price increases will be reflected in upcoming months as contract steel prices adjust.

Additionally, SDI predicted growth in its metal recycling segment compared to the fourth quarter of 2024, benefiting from higher realized pricing and stable volumes in both ferrous and nonferrous metals. 

However, its steel manufacturing business was expected to perform below the fourth-quarter levels due to seasonal shipment declines and a slight decrease in realized pricing.
