US and EU planning to sign green steel agreement

18 May 2023 15:19 reported by Margaret Yeh

Gina Raimondo, US Secretary of Commerce, said at the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) conference that Trade Representative Katherine Tai is negotiating with the EU and other trading partners to reach a new steel agreement about green steel, which is not only conducive to environmental protection but also can deal with steel dumping in China.

Raimondo said that if the green steel agreement is reached, more steel that meets higher environmental standards will be brought to the world and will also become a new standard for products.

China does not produce steel of the same standard so it will be at a disadvantage in its sales. The US would work to ensure that the action of steel and aluminum tariffs continues to provide protection for the domestic steel industry.
