US President Trump: Nippon Steel to drop acquisition plan of U.S. Steel

8 фев 2025 14:31 reported by Joy Liu

A A A
On February 7, US President Donald Trump said that Japan's Nippon Steel will invest in U.S. Steel rather than pursue a full takeover. This came after months of political opposition, including from Trump and former President Biden, to Nippon Steel's US$14.9 billion acquisition plan.

Trump indicated his administration would support Nippon Steel's investment as long as it doesn't take all control of the company.

David McCall, President of United Steelworkers (USW), expressed concerns about Nippon Steel's interest in U.S. Steel, encouraging Trump to continue to seek American alternatives to protect the US steel industry.

Concerning this news, both Nippon Steel and U.S. Steel didn’t provide any comments.
