CAMACERO urges more protection and investment to create favorable environment for steel consumption in Colombia

2 авг 2024 16:32 reported by Raul Lee

A A A
According to the Colombian Chamber of Steel (CAMACERO), during the period from 2022 to 2023, the country experienced a drop of 8.53% in steel consumption, from 3.65 million tons in 2022 to 3.34 million tons in 2023.

David Barrios, executive director of CAMACERO, said that the important challenges for steel consumption are related to structural problems such as the increase in interest rates and exchange rates, which are creating a less favorable environment for the country's steel industry.

Therefore, the executive director asked the Colombian government to protect the entire production chain and invest more in infrastructure, to create a more favorable environment to reverse negative trends in steel consumption.
