Danieli, an Italy-based equipment supplier, will update the Austrian steelmaker voestalpine’s slab caster at the Linz plant by installing a new hydraulic oscillator on the double-strand, vertical-curve slab caster.

Adopting an innovative and customized design, the new hydraulic oscillator will enable voestalpine to upgrade the slab caster without affecting oscillation performance and capabilities, with minimal mechanical modifications to the existing machine. This new feature will also reduce the risk of sticking and thus improve the surface quality of the slab and reduce oscillation marks.

The slab caster equipped with the new hydraulic oscillator was scheduled to be put into operation by October 2024.
