Indonesia to exempt 5 raw minerals from June’s export ban

Arifin Tasrif, the Minister for Energy and Mineral Resources of Indonesia, said that Indonesia will allow exports of five raw minerals, including copper, iron ore, lead, zinc, and anode mud from copper concentrates, in spite of a ban on exports started in June.

The mineral-rich country had planned to impose an export ban on all metal ore in order to encourage domestic processing industry investment. However, the Minister said on Wednesday that five metals are allowed for exporting until domestic smelters are ready to process the materials and said imposing the ban on these materials too early would impact the country’s revenue and employment rate.
