Canada starts AD probe on carbon and alloy steel wire imports from 10 countries

On April 22, 2025, the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) announced the initiation of an anti-dumping (AD) investigation on certain carbon and alloy steel wire originating in or exported China, Taiwan, India, Italy, Malaysia, Portugal, Spain, Thailand, Turkey, and Vietnam, to determine whether the imports from these countries are sold at unfair prices in Canada.

The investigation was launched based on the application submitted by local producers Sivaco Wire Group 2004 L.P. and ArcelorMittal Long Products Canada G.P., which claimed that increased dumped imports caused price undercutting, price depression, lost sales and market share, reduced profits and capacity utilization, hindered investment, and lowered employment, resulting in material injury to the domestic industry.

The Canadian International Trade Tribunal (CITT) will start a preliminary inquiry to determine whether these dumped goods injured Canadian producers and is scheduled to make a decision by June 20, 2025. The CBSA will investigate whether these imports are sold in Canada at lower-than-value prices and will announce its preliminary ruling by July 21, 2025.
