Taiwan’s scrap imports from Japan shrink sharply in 2024

7 Feb 2025 16:25 reported by Joy Liu

A A A
Taiwan's scrap imports amounted to approximately 2.73 million tons in 2024, a decrease of 12% from last year. Among them, imports from Japan were 631,800 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 31%, accounting for 76% of the total reduction, showing that Japan's scrap supply has significantly declined.

In contrast, the source from the US reached 1.174 million tons, down by 2% or about 20,000 tons, not a big change.

Although imports from Japan have dropped significantly, they still increased by 70,000 to 130,000 tons compared with 2022 and 2021’s volume.
