Anglo American announced the sale of a 33.3% stake in a joint venture that owns a 70% interest in Australia's Jellinbah East and Lake Vermont steelmaking coal mines for US$1.1 billion. The buyer, Zashvin Ltd, already holds a one-third stake in the mines and operates electric power facilities in Australia. This transaction marks the start of Anglo's restructuring plan, aimed at divesting non-core assets following a US$49 billion takeover attempt by BHP Group earlier this year.

The company is actively working to sell its nickel assets in Brazil and coking coal mines in Australia while separating its platinum operations in South Africa. Anglo American is also considering whether to sell or list its De Beers diamond division, focusing instead on expanding iron ore, copper, and the fertilizer sector. The miner's high-quality copper assets in Latin America make it a target for larger competitors seeking to capitalize on copper's role in green energy. Anglo aims to boost copper production in Chile and Peru to around 1 million metric tons by 2030.
