According to the report, the Canadian Steel Producers Association (CSPA) issued a statement urging the Canadian government to impose tariffs on steel imports from China. Canadian steel mills argue that overcapacity in China results in unfair trade practices. They are calling on the Canadian government to align its measures with those the United States (US) implements.

Last month, the Canadian government announced a 25% surcharge on steel and aluminum imports from China. The CEO of Zekelman Industries, the largest independent steel tube and pipe manufacturer, urged the United States, Canada, and Mexico to unify their stance, implement equal and effective tariffs on imported Chinese goods, and actively prevent circumvention.
