Turkish steel producers resist low-priced steel imports from China

The Turkish Steel Producers Association (TCUD) has urged the government to impose a measure on imports of low-priced steel from China in order to protect domestic industries.

Turkey's steel imports from China increased by 74% to 3.3 million tons in 2023. The low-priced steel products continued to exert pressure on the output and competitiveness of Turkish steel mills

TCUD reported that Turkey's imports of steel flat products from Asia increased significantly, despite a decline in total steel consumption from January to July.

In response, the Turkish Ministry of Trade has initiated an anti-dumping investigation into hot-rolled coils imported from China, India, Japan, and Russia. The preliminary dumping margin is estimated to be between 11.65% and 57.75%.

The final anti-dumping results will be determined by the Unfair Competition Assessment Committee and announced subsequently.
