UK’s TRA recommends extension of safeguard measure on steel imports until 2026

On February 21, 2024, the UK’s Trade Remedies Authority (TRA) announced its preliminary findings, recommending that the UK’s safeguard measure which covers 15 categories of steel should be extended for another two years.

The TRA found that the expiry of the existing safeguard measure would be likely to result in an increase in steel imports and the removal of this safeguard measure would also lead to reoccurrence of material injury on the UK steel producers.

The affected parties have to respond to the findings before March 7, 2024, and the TRA will then submit its final recommendation to the UK Secretary of State for Business and Trade for making a final decision.

If the safeguard measure is extended this year, it must end by June 30, 2026. If it is not extended, it will expire on June 30 this year.
