German steel mills appealed to extend the EU safeguard measures

According to the report, the German Steel Union Stahlallianz appealed on the government to create fair competition conditions for the domestic steel industry, strengthen Germany's position as a steel power and create a better investment environment

The Stahlallianz seek to extend safeguard measures on steel imports, which were due to expire in June 2024, until mid-2026 to avoid trade damage. They also required steel products to be included in the CBAM (carbon border adjustment mechanism) to protect European steel products.
