Taiwan’s stainless steel scrap imports surge in 2023

According to statistics, Taiwan’s stainless steel scrap imports totaled around 269,000 tons in 2023, growing by 86% compared to the previous year.

Among them, the US was the largest import source, with a supply of nearly 101,000 tons, accounting for 37.5% of the total. Japan ranked second with around 53,900 tons, followed by Australia’s 22,800 tons. It was worth noting that Vietnam and Turkey jumped to the fourth and fifth position, with the supply doubled and sevenfold respectively.

In December last year, Taiwan imported around 12,700 tons of stainless steel scrap, a month-on-month decrease of 46%. Japan’s supply occupied the most, with 3,600 tons, followed by the US’ 2,900 tons.
