US’ HDG steel imports slightly hike in Aug m-o-m

According to the preliminary Census Bureau data from the US Department of Commerce (USDOC), the US imported around 166,300 tons of hot-dip galvanized (HDG) sheets and strips in August this year, slightly rising by 0.4% compared to the previous month and falling by 25% from the same month a year ago.

Among them, the imports from Canada accounted for the largest proportion, totaling roughly 83,200 tons, a month-on-month increase of 20.6% and a year-on-year hike of 5.1%. Other major import sources included Vietnam (around 18,500 tons) and Mexico (around 17,600 tons).

During the period, the import value totaled roughly US$217 million, up by 0.7% month on month and down by 32.3% year on year.
