Taiwan’s rebar demand to improve in Q4

18 Sep 2023 15:33 reported by Joy Liu

According to a market survey with data analysis from construction companies and factories, Taiwan’s rebar demand in the fourth quarter was expected to improve from the previous quarter.

The construction projects and public works contracts dropped by 30-50% in the third quarter, which decreased rebar demand. Meanwhile, the actual demand was less than contract numbers due to the Typhoon and rainy season. However, the situation was forecasted to improve in the fourth quarter. In spite of the rebound in the fourth-quarter rebar demand, the overall demand was expected to be less in the second half of the year than in the first half.

Steel mills thought that the government’s house control policy's effects would gradually appear next year. The actual demand for rebar will be much clearer in the second quarter of next year after the construction companies start to apply for their building licenses.
