Mexico's temporary CVD duties on cold-rolled steel not to significantly impact CSVC

18 Sep 2023 16:03 reported by Ana Lee

A A A
Mexico started to impose temporary countervailing duties (CVD) of 12.77% to 81.06% on Vietnam's cold-rolled steel from September 14. In this regard, China Steel and Nippon Steel Vietnam Joint Stock Company (CSVC) said that the impact will not be significant.

Mexico has a developed automobile industry, and its demand for cold-rolled coils for automobiles is particularly large. Since Asian cold-rolled coils sold in the US are subject to a high tariff of 25%, sales to Mexico are tax-free. Therefore, some of the Asian mills exported large quantities of cold-rolled coils to Mexico, angering local steel mills due to the uncontrolled price and volume.

For the issue, CSVC said that it has not sold to Mexico for some time, so it will not be significantly affected.
