Turkey’s pig iron imports decrease in Q1 y-o-y

According to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), Turkey imported around 310,400 tons of pig iron in the first three months of this year, falling by 6.6% compared to the year-ago level. The import value was US$143.4 million, a year-on-year decrease of 30%.

Among them, the imports from Russia ranked first, with a supply of roughly 215,400 tons, a year-on-year surge of 291.8%; followed by Ukraine’s 76,600 tons.

In March alone, Turkey’s pig iron imports were up by 66% month on month and by 18.3% year on year to 129,000 tons. The value of these imports reached US$62 million, a month-on-month hike of 77% and a year-on-year drop of 7%.
