US’ ferrous scrap imports inch higher in Jan

According to statistics, the US’ pig iron imports totaled around 297,000 tons in January, falling by 25% compared to the previous month and by 41% from the year-ago level.

During the period, the US exported 1.01 million tons of ferrous scrap, a month-on-month decrease of 25%. Among them, the exports to Turkey accounted for the largest proportion, totaling around 247,000 tons, down by 26% month on month.

US’ ferrous scrap imports amounted to approximately 235,000 tons in January, a slight month-on-month increase of 0.8%. Canada was the major source, with 222,000 tons, up by 22% month on month.
