UAVtormet: Ukraine’s scrap purchases increase in Feb m-o-m

According to data from the Ukrainian Association of Secondary Metals (UAVtormet), Ukraine’s scrap purchasing volume totaled around 61,000 tons in February, rising by 52% compared to the previous month but falling by 52% from the same month a year ago. The purchasing volume dropped by 70.8% year on year to 152,000 tons in the first two months of this year.

In terms of exports, the volume in February was 16,500 tons, a month-on-month increase of nearly 99% and a year-on-year hike of 79%. The exports in the January-February period surged by 3.5 times to 24,800 tons.

In 2023, Ukraine’s scrap purchasing volume was expected to reach 850,000 to 880,000 tons.

UAVtormet predicted that up to 950,000 tons of scrap will be produced during the war with Russia, including scrapped military equipment.
