India's steel minister indicated that India's scrap usage applied in primary steel production would increase from 15% to 25% in the next five years and reach 50% by 2047.

The minister also stated that almost every country is protecting and reserving their steel scrap and trying to avoid exporting. Therefore, it is important for India to create free and fair recyclable materials import market.

22.5% of India's steel production is from scrap. Among them, 25 million tons of scrap within India and 5 million tons are imported.
