US mulling to impose 200% import tariffs on Russia’s aluminum

7 Feb 2023 11:30 reported by Joy Liu

A A A
It was reported that the US is preparing to impose a 200% tariff on aluminum produced by Russia in order to give more pressure on Moscow due to its invasion of Ukraine.

The decision hasn’t yet been made, while it has been planned for several months as Moscow has been making sales of its aluminum in the US market at prices below normal value, which caused injury to the US enterprises.

Regarding the new tariffs or other restrictions on Russia’s aluminum, the White House declined to give comments and the spokespersons for the Office of the US Trade Representative (USTR) and the US Department of Commerce (USDOC) didn’t give a response immediately as well.

Russia is the second-largest aluminum producer in the world. The country’s aluminum supply accounts for around 10% of US total imports traditionally.
