Global aluminum production dragged down by power crisis

According to statistics released by the International Aluminum Institute (IAI), global aluminum production slightly hiked by 2.0% in 2022. The growth rate dropped by 0.7% from the rate in 2021 and hit the slowest level since 2019. The production increased little in the second half of last year.

Due to the energy crisis in Europe, the energy-hungry aluminum industry was impacted a lot. Therefore, the output in the European region slid by 12.5% last year, and the total global output, excluding China, had a decrease of 0.9%.
