According to statistics released by the International Aluminum Institute (IAI), global primary aluminum production amounted to 5.859 million tons in December last year, growing by 6.12% compared to the output in the same month a year earlier.

During the period, the estimated production of primary aluminum in China, the largest aluminum producer and consumer in the world, was 3.47 million tons. The output in Asia, excluding China, totaled 391,000 tons.
