According to the data released by the Pakistan Federal Bureau of Statistics (PFBS), Pakistan imported around 192,000 tons of scrap in December last year, falling by nearly 9% compared to the previous month and plummeting by 55% from the same month a year ago.

During the period, the import value totaled roughly US$101 million, a month-on-month drop of 9.3% and a year-on-year reduction of 60%.

In the first half of 2022, Pakistan imported around 1.2 million tons of scrap, dropping by 41.2% compared to the year-ago level.

The country’s scrap import volume was expected to decline further in January owing to the current issue of financing delays.
