Western Australia Water Authority cuts Alcoa’s water license by a third

2 Feb 2023 15:51 reported by Joy Liu

The Water Authority of Western Australia announced it will cut US’ leading aluminum producer Alcoa's water license by a third due to unsustainable water demand in the region. WA Water Minister Simone McGurk said that the drop of 23% in rainfall resulted in a major change in licensed water in the Murray region in Southeastern Australia.

Besides reducing the region's future water access by 40%, the local government is currently reviewing the updated allocations in the Murray groundwater area to determine whether to further cut water consumption.
