Vale’s copper production slides in 2022 y-o-y due to maintenance issue

2 Feb 2023 17:19 reported by Joy Liu

According to a report released by Vale S.A. (Vale), a Brazilian multinational corporation engaged in metals and mining, the company’s copper production totaled 253,000 tons in 2022, decreasing by 15% compared to the previous year. The decline was mainly due to the extended duration of maintenance at the Sossego operation in the first half of the year, as well as the additional maintenance needed at both the Sossego and Salobo operations.

The impact was partially offset by higher copper production in Canada, benefited by the stable production at Sudbury mines and the recovery of copper from copper precipitates in Thompson.
