Due to the Coronavirus restrictions, the Chinese domestic economy was gloomy in 2022, and the market demand for aluminum kept weak all the year.

With the struggling economy and moderated power prices, aluminum smelters' production hit record highs. Last year, Inner Mongolia, Yunnan, and Guangxi increased their aluminum smelter capacity.

According to the report from the Chinese government, China’s aluminum production rose to a new record high last year. In 2022, aluminum smelters in China reached a new record at 40.21 million tons, which increased by 4.5% compared with 2021.
