Brazil's scrap exports drop in 2022 y-o-y

According to customs statistics, Brazil exported roughly 370,000 tons of steel scrap in 2022, a year-on-year drop of 27%. Among them, exports to Bangladesh accounted for 40% of the total, followed by India with 32% and Taiwan with 8%. The main export ports were the Port of Santos with 24%, the Port of Manaus with 16%, and the Port of São Francisco do Sul with 15%.

In December of 2022, Brazil exported about 21,600 tons of steel scrap, a year-on-year decrease of 15%. Among them, 15,000 tons were exported to India, 4,800 tons to Bangladesh, and 700 tons to China.

Besides, Brazil imported approximately 43,000 tons of steel scrap in 2022, plunging by 82% from 245,000 tons in 2021.
