Alacero: Latin American steel consumption declines in Jan-Aug y-o-y

According to statistics from the Latin American steel association Alacero, in the first eight months of this year, the consumption of rolled steel products in Latin America totaled 40.35 million tons, falling by 10.2% year on year, while the figure was higher than that in the pre-COVID-19 period.

Among them, the consumption in Chile fell by 50.2%, Peru by 16.8%, Brazil by 2.7%, and Argentina by 1.5%, but consumption in Colombia and Mexico increased by 13.7% and 1.8%, respectively.

Alacero said that the total production in 2022 was expected to slide by 5-6% to approximately 68 million tons.
