European Commission proposes eighth round of sanctions against Russia

4 Oct 2022 15:37 reported by Joy Liu

A A A
Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European Commission, said that the eighth package of sanctions against Russia over its escalated invasion of Ukraine has been proposed. The proposed sanctions included tighter trade restrictions, new individual black listings, and an oil price cap for third countries.

The president said these new export bans will weaken Russia's economic basis and the country’s capacity to modernize.

The implementation of new sanctions should be subject to unanimous approval by the EU's 27 member states.
