Maersk: Global shipping container demand to be weak in 2022

Global shipping giant Maersk said last week that global shipping container demand will slow this year due to weakening consumer confidence and supply chain congestion, and the inventory at ports and warehouses will continue to increase.

Compared to the same period in 2021, the number of containers loaded on ships dropped by 7.4% in the second quarter of this year, which prompted this shipping company to revise its outlook for this year.

Maersk expected that the global economy has a gloomy outlook due to inflation and rising energy prices, so the 2022 container shipping demand to be at the lower end of its forecast range, between -1% and 1%.
