Pakistan lowers sales tax on scrap imports, available for steel melters only

23 Sep 2021 16:17 reported by Joy Liu

A A A
Pakistan’s government has decided to lower sales tax on imported steel scrap from 17% to 14%, while the tax is only available for steelmakers who import scrap for the melting process.

For traders who import scrap, the sales tax will remain in place at 17%.

It was believed that the adjustment of sales tax on scrap imports will benefit Pakistan’s domestic steel mills since they have a high dependency and demand for scrap for steel production.
