Ghana to invest $6 billion to develop domestic aluminum industry

Akufo-Addo, the president of Ghana, announced on September 14 that Ghana Integrated Aluminium Development Corporation (GIADEC) will launch four key projects, with a total investment of US$6 billion, aiming to ensure full utilization of Ghana’s bauxite.
The projects included the expansion at the existing Awaso bauxite mine in northwestern Ghana and building a refinery, the establishment of a new mining project and a refinery in Nyinahin-Mpasaaso and Kyebi respectively, as well as the upgrade of the Volta Aluminum Company’s smelter in Tema.
The president emphasized that the four projects will proceed in an environmentally friendly way with reasonable bauxite mining.
