It was understood that Northwest Pipe Company, a US supplier of pipeline systems for water infrastructure, would supply pipelines for the San Diego Pure Water project.

Northwest Pipe Company would produce steel pipes for the North City Pure Water Pipeline, which was a key part of the first phase of the pure water project. The company planned to use more than 3,220 tons of steel to make engineering steel pipes with a diameter of 48 inches. The pipeline has a cement mortar lining and a cement mortar coating wrapped with polyethylene tape.

This pure water project would last for several years, and it was expected that more than 40% of San Diego's water supply would be covered by the end of 2035.
