Philippines suspends mining in Tumbagaan island

13 Jan 2021 15:21 reported by Markus Chen

A A A
Duterte, the Philippine President, ordered the suspension of mining operations in Tumbagaan Island in Languyan, Tawi-Tawi on the grounds of restoring the local environment yesterday.

According to understanding, the mineral resources of the island are almost exhausted. Therefore, the president requested all local mining operations to stop and strengthen greening and restoration of the environment.

The recent rainy season disrupted Philippine production, resulting in a tight supply of nickel ore in China, helping to support nickel ore prices.
