Brazilian scrap exports increase in 2020 y-o-y

According to the Brazilian Ministry of Economy, Brazil exported approximately 731,000 tons of scrap in 2020, increasing by 3% from 2019. Among them, Brazil exported around 240,500 tons to Bangladesh and roughly 221,000 tons to India.

In December 2020, Brazil exported roughly 30,000 tons of scrap, dropping by 46.6% from the previous month and 75.1% from the same period a year ago. The export volume fell due to rising domestic demand and prices.

Besides, Brazil totally imported about 91,000 tons of scrap in 2020, falling by 47.6% from last year. In December 2020, Brazil imported 33,400 tons, compared to 988 tons in December 2019.
