Mexico's AD investigation on steel slabs may not impact Russia & Brazil

14 Oct 2020 16:17 reported by Markus Chen

Market participants stated recently that due to insufficient domestic production capacity of Mexico and the continuous increase in plate rolling capacity, the anti-dumping (AD) investigation initiated in September might not have an impact on slab exports from Russia and Brazil.

After receiving the request from ArcelorMittal México, the Secretariat of Economy of Mexico initiated an AD investigation on the imported steel slabs from Russia and Brazil.

ArcelorMittal claimed that steel slabs imported from Russian and Brazil between 2017 and 2019 had caused significant damage to Mexican domestic products due to price discrimination. The company also proposed to investigate the import situation during the period from January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2019.
