Alacero: COVID-19 epidemic reduces Latin America’s steel consumption in 2020

25 Sep 2020 14:48 reported by Raul Lee

A A A
The novel coronavirus pandemic was expected to promote a sharp drop in apparent steel consumption in Latin America.

According to the Latin American Steel Association (Alacero), the apparent steel consumption in the region was to reach 55.68 million tons in 2020, which represented a drop of 14.5% compared to 2019.

The fall was driven by the poor performance of the sector in Brazil, Argentina, and Mexico, the largest consumer markets in the region.
