Stelco stated that its Lake Erie Works in Nanticoke, Canada will complete the upgrade project of a blast furnace in early October and increase its hot metal output.
The ongoing maintenance and upgrading operations will increase the plant’s hot metal output by 300,000 short tons per year and reduce the cost of steel coil production by approximately CAD 30/ton.
Stelco said that once the upgrade processing finished, it will benefit production efficiency and save related costs. It will not only make it the first smart blast furnace in North America but also enable this facility to operate for another 30-40 years.
