UAE's export ban on scrap extended for another 4 months

21 Sep 2020 16:43 reported by Alex Lo

A A A
In order to meet the demand from the domestic market, the UAE issued an export ban for scrap steel for another four months, from the original period covering May 15 to September 15.

The main reason to extend the export ban was due to the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak in China and strong demand from the domestic market, which caused a short-supply of steel scrap.

However, despite the export ban, India still imported about 300,000 tons of scrap from the UAE this June, and it was estimated that it won't have too much impact on scrap exports to India, Pakistan, and so on.
