US' steel shipments rise so far while prices harm profitability

18 Nov 2019 16:23 reported by Ivy Wei

According to statistics, the US' steel shipments went up by 1.6% so far this year but prices hurt profitability. US steelmakers have suffered due to low prices although the steel shipments increased than last year.

The steel shipments decreased by 0.6% in September year over year compared to the same period a year ago. Until now this year, US steel mills shipments increased.

However, lower steel prices with weak steel demand made US' steel makers struggle as automotive sales dropped and appliance imports were going up.
