The World Steel Association (worldsteel) has announced that Dr. Henrik Adam will succeed Dr. Edwin Basson as Director General as of the middle of the fourth quarter of 2026.

Dr. Basson will retire this year after more than 15 years of leading the association. 

Dr. Adam brings over 25 years of leadership experience in both the steel and automotive sectors, including more than 15 years of C-suite experience. He currently serves as Executive Chairman of Tata Steel Netherlands Holding BV, President of EUROFER, and Chairman of the Steel Institute VDEh in Germany.

His previous roles include CEO at Tata Steel Europe and CEO of Electrical Steel at thyssenkrupp, where he oversaw operations across production, R&D, sales, supply chain, and strategy.
