The US Department of Commerce (USDOC) has initiated a circumvention inquiry into corrosion-resistant steel products (CORE) completed in Thailand. This investigation is to determine if CORE produced using South Korean-origin steel components and exported from Thailand to the US bypasses current anti-dumping (AD) and countervailing duty (CVD) orders on South Korea.

This probe was launched at the request of Nucor Corporation and Steel Dynamics, Inc.

The present AD duty rates for these materials from South Korea range from 8.75% to 47.80%, and the CVD rates are between 0.72% and 1.19%.

The USDOC’s move aims to protect domestic manufacturers.
