US imports fewer HDG steel in Apr

The preliminary Census Bureau data from the US Department of Commerce (USDOC) showed that the US imported around 127,000 tons of hot-dip galvanized (HDG) sheets in April, falling by 25% compared to the previous month and by 46% from the same month a year ago.

The imports from Canada accounted for the largest proportion, totaling roughly 71,000 tons, a month-on-month decrease of 4.1% and a year-on-year drop of 14%. Mexico followed with a supply of around 11,000 tons. South Korea ranked third with roughly 12,700 tons.

During the period, the import value of these products totaled roughly US$156 million, down by 21% month on month and by 45% year on year.
