US Housing Act to stimulate small screw demand

15 Jul 2026 15:15 reported by Joy Liu

A A A
The US Congress passed the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act, a massive housing affordability bill aimed at increasing supply, lowering costs, and restricting corporate property speculation to 350 homes per conglomerate. This policy could trigger a recovery in construction fastener markets, potentially boosting Taiwan's small screw exports.

High interest rates, with 30-year fixed mortgage rates near 6.6%, recently pushed May housing starts down to a six-year low. This legislation seeks to reverse that trend before the 2026 midterm elections by easing regulations, lifting bank investment limits for affordable units, and expanding buyer subsidies.

Statistics show that the current US housing supply gap exceeds four million homes. Screw manufacturers in Taiwan expect higher housing starts to directly lift hardware orders.
