UMB Steel acquires ArcelorMittal Hunedoara assets for EUR 12.5 million

13 Apr 2026 15:26 reported by Joy Liu

A A A
Romanian investor UMB Steel has received approval from the country’s Competition Council to acquire the production assets of ArcelorMittal Hunedoara, further expanding its presence in the domestic steel sector.

The transaction, valued at EUR 12.5 million, involves the purchase of the plant’s industrial assets and related land.

Market participants view the deal as a typical acquisition of distressed steelmaking assets, as the Hunedoara facility has remained idle since September 2025 due to high energy costs and weak demand.
