Ukraine prepares to ratify a free trade agreement with Türkiye

According to the report, the Turkish government approved the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) last year. Ukraine eliminated specific tariffs on Turkish goods, and Turkey also removed import tariffs on Ukrainian agricultural and industrial products, including steel.

Before the Russo-Ukrainian war, Ukraine was one of Türkiye's largest steel suppliers. However, in 2024, imports plummeted sharply to 6,000 tons due to the conflict. Conversely, Türkiye's hot-rolled steel exports to Ukraine have increased significantly. In 2021, Türkiye exported only 3,300 tons of hot-rolled steel to Ukraine, but this figure surged to 263,000 tons in 2024.

Ukraine decided to approve the FTA with Türkiye. As Ukraine begins to rebuild after the war, this agreement is expected to further promote economic and trade cooperation between Ukraine and Türkiye, particularly in the steel and agriculture sectors. However, the trade dynamics between the two countries are still influenced by the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian war, and future market trends must be closely monitored.
