The Ministry of Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change of Turkey approved Kocaer Çelik's 3.6 billion Turkish lira integrated steel and rolling mill project in Izmir's Aliaga district after finalizing the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA).

The development covers about 234,698 square meters and targets an annual production capacity of 1.25 million tons of liquid steel plus 500,000 tons from a new rolling mill.

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality opposed the initiative, presenting a negative opinion because the site plan conflicts with existing zoning regulations, disrupts transportation continuity, and affects protected forest areas.

Despite municipal objections regarding plan integrity and public land use, the ministry finalized the environmental impact assessment. The investment is projected to create 800 construction jobs and 600 operational positions.
